The UAE on global climate change promoting Sustainable Development
With The UAE Green Growth Strategy, The Emirates adopts a stimulating vision with the rest of the countries of the world. Specifically, Its efforts are made to reach the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2030 to reduce the effects of climate change and global warming. But most importantly, to become one of the world leaders for the export of green products and technologies.
To do so, The UAE has launched many national strategies that promote sustainable development and help to shift to clean energy. Indeed, Abu Dhabi and Dubai are making progress in the creation of clean energy sources – such as solar power.
The UAE Green Growth Strategy and the Green Hydrogen
The International Energy Agency (IEA), declared that the demand for hydrogen as a power source has tripled in the past decades and that global production is estimated to decrease by 64% by 2040. That’s the reason why The UAE started projects aimed to place the country in the global market. Particularly, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) created the first solar-powered green hydrogen production facility in the Middle East and North Africa.

But that is not all. Indeed, DEWA is also implementing a hydra energetic power station in Hatta, also known as “pumped hydro”. With a design life expected to last up to 80 years, it is the first of its kind in the region. Specifically, it will use the water in the Hatta Dam to generate electricity. As declared by the Crown Prince of Dubai Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum, the project will help achieve the goals of the Dubai Clean Energy 2050. Indeed, its central aim is to provide 75% of Dubai’s power output from clean energy by 2050.
