Let’s take a look at the release date, price and features of Microsoft’s newest jewel, the Surface Pro 9.
If last year’s Microsoft Surface Pro 8 had introduced major updates on the hardware and design side with the innovative Thunderbolt 8 ports and the 120Hz display, this year there are not many changes in this area, but what will be surprising is the interior.
Starting with the renewal of Intel CPUs, which will be 12th generation this year, and the possibility – for the highest performing model – to configure with an ARM CPU.
Let’s take a look at the release date, price and features of Microsoft’s newest jewel, the Surface Pro 9.

Microsoft Surface Pro 9: technical specifications and new features
In terms of design, the Surface Pro 9 will not deviate much from the previous model. The aluminium casing – of the highest quality – will be available in the colours Forest, Graphite, Sapphire and Platinum – the latter only available in the higher-performance version, however.
The 2-in-1 technology remains because it is going strong: it will be possible to tilt the screen 165 degrees, and just like the previous models, the keyboard will be attached to the body magnetically.
The screen size is also no different: 13 inches at 120Hz, and the overall dimensions remain at 28cm x 20cm x 1cm with a weight of less than 1 kg.
The most interesting Surface Pro 9 novelties are to be found on the inside
The first version of Microsoft’s newest top-of-the-range model features 12th generation Intel Core processors, which will make the Surface Pro 9 user experience smooth and extremely fast – we’re talking about a 50 per cent performance boost, according to Microsoft.
In the highest-performance version, we instead find the Microsoft SQ3 Adreno 8CX Gen 3 processor – inspired by the Qualcomm Snapdragon – which features 5G connectivity, effectively joining the parallels between the Surface Pro X and the regular series. The implementation of this technology is a big step forward for those who need a stable and effective connection at all times, but above all, autonomy.
Both variants will, however, support Bluethoot 5.1 and WiFi 6E connectivity, but only the version with SQ3 will allow more options including GPS, GLONASS, Galileo and – as already mentioned – 5G. Furthermore, only this version will allow the use of nanoSIM and eSIM.
As far as the battery compartment is concerned, the Intel version claims a battery life of 15.5 hours, while the SQ3 version, 19 hours. Furthermore, another substantial difference lies in the number of USB-C ports: the SQ variant has two, while the Intel one will have four.
