How to free up storage space on Android in 3 quick and easy steps

When your Android smartphone's memory is running out quickly, don't immediately think about changing your phone: there are easy techniques to free up large amounts of storage space.

When purchasing a new Android smartphone, the internal memory always seems large enough to do everything: after all, how could we fill it? We will be tidy, we will always export the photos and we will certainly not put too many apps.

Then the photos pile up, we download heavy files or internal app data clogs everything up. But before resorting to the shortcut of buying a new phone (with double the space), try instead following these 3 very easy methods to free up storage space on Android.

How to free up storage space on Android? Here are 3 secrets that are right for you

Don’t worry if you notice your mobile phone’s memory is running out: it’s time to take action to avoid ruining it once and for all. Just follow some simple tips to solve the problem.

Export what doesn’t need to be on your phone

The first method may seem trivial, but it is the main cause of memory filling. If you are in the habit of taking a lot of photos and videos, or keeping very large files on your smartphone, there is only one thing to do: store them somewhere else. What is not useful for daily use of the phone should be kept elsewhere.

Today’s phones have large memories, so much so that each user can easily choose a model based on how much space they need in their mobile phone. Yet, if you have not exceeded the 256 GB threshold, the fact remains that a smartphone is not as large as a computer or an external hard drive.

If you’re looking for a long-lasting solution to free up your memory, start “digital tidying.” Move photos and videos (or very large documents) to a PC, external hard drive or cloud service. If you connect to the PC with the cable, just go to “This PC”, then to the phone folder and finally to “DCIM”, where you will find all the photos.

Check the biggest apps, delete them or clear their caches

In some cases the Android phone is full due to the weight of the applications. But luckily, it’s easy to find the real culprits.

Go to your Android’s Settings, scroll down and tap About device, then Storage. You will be given a summary of how much and how full your smartphone is. Ignore System Data, you cannot delete it. Focus on the weight of images and videos (to use the previous method) or apps.

At this point, operate according to your needs. Uninstall the apps that you forgot, that you don’t need and that weigh a lot. In the others, delete the data only if you don’t need it. But be careful. If you delete important data, it will be deleted forever. To operate in more detail, try the third method.

You can also clear caches. This operation allows you to free up some space, especially if you rarely use those apps. Just know that, if you use them a lot, the cache will be recreated almost immediately (and with the same weight) once you reopen the app and start using it daily again.

Remove useless WhatsApp files and more

If your problem doesn’t even concern the number of applications themselves, know that some app files can take up a lot of memory. Very often these are messaging apps like WhatsApp, which keep numerous useless copies of photos and videos, both sent and received.
