Oscars 2024, the winners: the complete list of awards and statuettes

Here's who won the 2024 Oscars: 23 categories were awarded at the Dolby Theater in the 96th edition of the Academy Awards.

The 96th Oscars took place at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles, hosted for the fourth time by the popular comedian and presenter Jimmy Kimmel. Like every year, the Academy awards 23 categories.

All the Oscar 2024 winners

Here are all the winners in order of assignment, according to the evening’s lineup.

Best Supporting Actress

Da’Vine Joy Randolph wins for the film «The Holdovers: Life Lessons». The actress receives the award in tears. «I wasn’t supposed to be an actress, but a singer» she confesses. And the thanks begin, from the mother to the cast. But above all she says: «Thank you for seeing me». A powerful message.

Best animated short film

«War Is Over!» wins Inspired by the Music of John & Yoko» directed by Dave Mullins. John Lennon’s son was present and wished his mother Yoko Ono her 91st birthday on 18 February.

Best animated film

«The Boy and the Heron» wins, directed by Hayao Miyazaki who was not present at the ceremony.

Best original screenplay

«Anatomy of a Fall» by Justine Triet and Arthur Harari wins. Collecting the award, Triet talks about when she and Harari, who are a couple, wrote the film, at home during the lockdown, between children and diapers, continually looking for an angle and a moment to write the screenplay.

Best non-original screenplay

«American Fiction» wins. Cord Jefferson collects the award and says: “No one has ever trusted me.” The film was shot in just three weeks.

Best makeup and hairstyles

«Poor creatures!» wins. The winners are Nadia Stacey, Mark Coulier and Josh Weston.

Best production design

James Price, Shona Heath and Zsuzsa Mihalek win for the film «Poor Creatures!».

Best costumes

«Poor creatures!» wins. The costume designer is Holly Waddington, her first nomination. Waddington says to his partner: “Thank you for looking after the children so I can work.”

Best international film

«The Zone of Interest», a United Kingdom film directed by Jonathan Glazer, wins. «I captain» by Matteo Garrone didn’t make it.

Best supporting actor

Robert Downey Jr. wins for the film «Oppenheimer». The actor wins the statuette in his third nomination. During the speech he says: «I would like to thank my terrible childhood, the Academy, my wife who found me like an abandoned puppy and gave me life again». The actor thanks everyone, even his lawyer thanks to whom he took out life insurance.

Best special effects

«Godzilla Minus One» wins. The winners are Takashi Yamazaki, Kiyoko Shibuya, Masaki Takahashi and Tatsuji Nojima. This is the first nomination and first win for the Godzilla special effects team.

Best editing

«Oppenheimer» wins with Jennifer Lame in her first nomination. «I was terrified when I started working with you» says Leme to director Christopher Nolan who thanks him for his trust.

Best documentary short

«The Last Repair Shop» directed by Kris Bowers and Ben Proudfoot wins. The young protagonist Porché Brinker also collected the Oscar.

Best documentary

«20 Days in Mariupol» directed by Mstyslav Chernov with Michelle Mizner and Raney Aronson-Rath wins. The documentary chronicles the first days of the Russian invasion of Ukraine and the siege and destruction of the city of Mariupol two years ago. «This is the first Oscar for the history of Ukraine and I am honoured», says the director. And he adds: «I wish I had never made this film (referring to the conflict, ed.) And I would exchange this statuette for the non-invasion by Russia”.

Best director of photography

Hoyte van Hoytema wins for the film «Oppenheimer». The Dutchman with Swedish citizenship and naturalized Swiss has collaborated for years with director Christopher Nolan, with whom he worked on the films «Interstellar», «Dunkirk» and «Tenet».

Best short film

«The Best Henry Sugar Story» wins, directed by Wes Anderson who is not in the room to accept the award.

Best sound

«The area of interest» wins. The winners are Tarn Willers and Johnnie Burn.

Best best original soundtrack

Ludwig Göransson wins for the film «Oppenheimer». Göransson says that director Nolan wanted the violin in the soundtrack and so his violinist wife played for the soundtrack.

Best original song

«What Was I Made For?» wins. – Barbie »by Billie Eilish and her brother Finneas O’Connell. It is the second statuette for the American singer-songwriter (in 2022 she won with «No Time To Die»).

Best leading actor

Cillian Murphy wins for the film «Oppenheimer». The actor takes home the statuette in his first nomination. Award-winning Murphy says: «The film is about the atomic bomb. For better or for worse we live in Oppenheimer’s world and I dedicate this award to those who bring peace to the world.”

Best director

Christopher Nolan wins his eighth nomination for the film «Oppenheimer». A victory announced.

Best leading actress

Emma Stone wins for «Poor creatures!». It is the second Oscar for the actress who already took home the statuette in 2017 for «La La Land». Very excited, with teary eyes, the actress breaks her dress as she goes on stage to be rewarded. And she says: «I want to share this award with the whole cast… and don’t look at the b-side of my destroyed dress».

Best film

«Oppenheimer» by Christopher Nolan wins. The Academy Awards super favorite did not disappoint.
